Waitresses are required to establish a bridge between customers and chefs at restaurants and cafeterias. They greet clients that walk in and take meal orders. Their duties are focuses on making customers feeling welcome and doing public relations for the restaurant. They team up with other professionals such as captains, waiters, stewards, and restaurant managers to provide the best service to their clients.

Waitresses usually perform many of the following tasks:
• Taking orders.
• Welcoming clients.
• Displaying menu cards.
• Serving orders to clients.
• Collecting money.

Education

There are no academic qualification requirements to be a Waitress, though a general recommendation is to have a high school diploma as a minimum. Most employers seek candidates having communication skills, team player abilities, good memory, and abilities to work under pressure. Some restaurants offer courses about food service, restaurant policies, and health and safety before workers are allowed to take orders. It is also recommended to have suitable past experience working in the same area in order to maximize job opportunities.
