Pilots are required to fly different types of aircrafts, such as helicopters and airplanes, in order to transport cargo and passengers across the world. They may work for passenger airlines and team up with another pilot, where one is a captain and the other is the co-pilot or first-officer. These professionals need to check weather conditions before takeoff and give continuous reports about the functioning of the aircraft.
Pilots usually perform many of the following tasks:
• Operating aircrafts.
• Liaising with air traffic controllers.
• Making sure that every instrument of the aircraft is checked.
• Creating reports about any incident.
• Checking weather conditions.
Skills
• Having good organizational skills.
• Being able to make quick decisions.
• Having math skills.
• Having good reflexes.
• Being able to stay calm under stressful circumstances.
• Having high attention to details.
• Being able to speak more than one language.
• Having analytical skills.
• Being able to work for long hours.
Education
Persons who want to work as Pilots are required to have a license from the Federal Government. Candidates for this qualification must be over eighteen years old and have flown at least 250 hours to obtain that license. Those who want to work as Commercial Airline Pilots are required to be over 23 years old and have flown at least 1,500 hours or having a course from a school for pilots. Applicants for these jobs must also pass a health check to make sure that they are healthy enough to fly and pass a written examination to demonstrate that they know how to properly fly. Courses for this field are offered by special schools and military forces.
