Massage Therapists are responsible for performing bodywork and massages to their clients. These professionals need to relax their patients and promote well being and general health. There are more than 80 types of massages and they are very useful for muscular problems and specific health problems, including sports massage, reflexology, acupressure, deep-tissue massage, Swedish massage, among others. These therapists may specialize in more than one method or modality.

Massage Therapists usually perform many of the following tasks:
• Preparing massage oils.
• Proposing specific treatment plans for clients.
• Reviewing medical histories.
• Referring clients to other types of therapists.
•   Educating clients on how to improve their posture.

Education

Persons who want to be Massage Therapists are required to have a High School Diploma or equivalent degree in order to apply to education programs. These schemes are found in public or private postsecondary institutions and require 500 hours for completion. There are different subjects included in these programs such as anatomy, the study of tissues and organs, physiology, business management, ethics, body mechanics, among other topics. Professionals working in this business are required to obtain a license after graduation. Applicants must pass one or two tests including the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination, and the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork in order to obtain a license.
