Saint Joseph (informally St. Joe) is the largest city in northwest Missouri, serving as the county seat for Buchanan County. As of the 2010 census, Saint Joseph had a total population of 76,780, making it the eighth largest city in the state. The St. Joseph Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Buchanan, Andrew, and DeKalb counties in Missouri and Doniphan County, Kansas, had an estimated population of 126,359 in 2008. Saint Joseph is also home to Missouri Western State University, which in 2010 became the training camp home of the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League.Downtown St. Joseph is approximately 37 miles north-northwest of Kansas City International Airport via Interstate 229 and Interstate 29.
