Shawnee is a city located in northwest Johnson County, Kansas, United States and is a western suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 62,209. Shawnee's fur trading and pioneering heritage blends histories of these Kansas Territory townships: Monticello and Shawnee. Shawnee has once again been recognized by Money Magazine as one of the "Best Places to Live" in America! Ranked 17th on the list, Shawnee was recognized for its affordable housing, air quality index, and median commute time. For the fourth consecutive time, Shawnee has been selected tops by a national on-line publication. BusinessWeek selected Shawnee as one of the Best Affordable Suburbs in 2006 and 2009.
