Haven't started my career. excavator operator?
Hello, I’m in that period of your life where you need to decide what are you going to do for the rest of your life and I don’t know 100% but all my life I liked excavators with passion and I thought that maybe I could be an excavator operator, I feel it would suit me but I don’t know what to do to get there. I need information on what to study and how to get started on the field and get experience because I heard that now a days the hardest thing to do isn’t getting your grades but getting experience in whatever you studied and start your career. Please help me.

Hey Bentley! Well first things first you should earn your high school diploma or equivalent including auto shop, mechanics, computer science… Then what you should go is get the necessary credentials for example a driver’s license, keep in mind that some ask for a commercial driver’s license (which requirements vary by state) also some may ask you about an industry certification related to the equipment they operate. After that the best option in my opinion would be to complete a training program, I know you might me thinking right now that most applicants for these jobs have no training, but believe me when I say that employers are more likely to hire someone with a training where they’ve gone through a traditional course under the supervision of a qualified worker. Students use heavy equipment simulators to learn how to operate construction vehicles. Once you’ve taken all these steps it’s time to get experience for that you must start at the bottom, just take any offer and grow from there, you might start operating smaller vehicles but you will build trust and with enough experience you’ll be able to apply wherever you want.Dec 20, 2017

If you are really sure that you want to become an excavator operator, then go for it! There is nothing easy to achieve if you want to become a really good specialist. So I don’t think you should be concerned about your grades. Rather, concentrate on the skills you are going to gain and the job you are going to enjoy.
If your concern is the tuition, you can look for relevant scholarships. For example, Fortis Construction Scholarship offers one for heavy equipment operation, too. Here are the details if you are interested: https://goo.gl/D7syiLJun 24, 2018
