English Teachers are responsible for instructing students about writing and reading in the English language. English Teacher job placements at Middle and High School levels require candidates having a teaching credential and a Bachelor´s Degree in English Education. Courses for this purpose last four years plus a period of six months where the student works with a teacher at a school. Then the student must pass a test to become a Certified Teacher in the State in which the person wants to teach. In the case of Colleges and Universities, applicants must have a Doctorate or Master´s degree. People who want to give English lessons abroad need to have a four-year degree. Most institutions require professionals having past teaching experience.
