Construction Managers are required to plan, coordinate, and budget a wide variety of projects. These duties may include the building of residential, industrial, and commercial structures, and water treatment plants, schools, bridges, roads, and hospitals. They supervise all areas of a project, coordinating the process from the beginning to its completion, or just a part of it, for instance, the hiring process.
Construction Managers usually perform many of the following tasks:
• Coordinating construction projects.

• Teaming up with engineers, electrician, plumbers, among other professionals.
• Hiring new workers.
• Planning budgets.

Education
Candidates for Construction Manager jobs require a Bachelor´s Degree in a field related to Construction, such as Building Science, Construction Science, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering. These courses are offered by more than one hundred universities and colleges and their programs include site planning, design, project control, construction materials, construction methods, among other useful subjects. It is also recommended to have years of work experience in this area because many employers seek candidates including that experience. This last requirement can be achieved through internships, cooperative education programs or other jobs in the same industry.
The Construction Management Association of America and the American Institute of Constructors offer certification programs for people working on this industry. This process includes written examinations and verification of past education and professional experience.
