Managing a nursing unit is the responsibility of a Unit Manager. They oversee the care of people who might need hospice or long term care. Managers also handle administrative responsibilities. They disperse letters, enforce policies and mentor staff. Unit Managers receive very good salaries and benefits in their jobs.
A Unit Manager usually performs many of the following tasks:

Unit Managers need to secure their nursing license in order to operate in this profession. This can be done through the National Council Licensure. Also they should pursue First Aid and CPR training and certification, which are only few of the skills they need to acquire. Before they do this, they should work on getting their Bachelors or Masters Degree, or even an Associate or Diploma to get started. Other relevant areas of study include Health Services Administration, Care Administration or Public Health Administration.
