Geologists are responsible for studying the Earth and processes which shape it. They study all materials that compound this planet, including processes that affect their forms. Information obtained by these professionals is very useful for mining construction purposes and fuel extraction. They may work for government agencies in reclamation of waste land and testing of nuclear weapons.

Course requirements include chemistry, calculus, physics, mineralogy, sedimentary petrology, crystallography, among other subjects.
Some states require that professionals working on this area have a state license. In order to obtain this qualification, candidates must meet some requirements related to experience, education, and pass an exam.
