English Teachers are responsible for instructing students about writing and reading in the English language. Among their lessons, they teach composition, grammar, literature, reading comprehension, among other topics. These professionals may work at schools, universities, and colleges. In this last case, they teach specialized topics such as writing short stories, literature theory, Middle English, etc.
 
English Teachers usually perform many of the following tasks:

English Teacher job placements at Middle and High School levels require candidates having a teaching credential and a Bachelor´s Degree in English Education. Courses for this purpose last four years plus a period of six months where the student works with a teacher at a school. Then the student must pass a test to become a Certified Teacher in the State in which the person wants to teach. In the case of Colleges and Universities, applicants must have a Doctorate or Master´s degree. People who want to give English lessons abroad need to have a four-year degree. Most institutions require professionals having past teaching experience.
